The River

By Iolanda Leotta

A river of thoughts,

emotions and feelings, it’s you,

that flows on this brown earth

and meanwhile time passes

and everything is consumed:

faded memories, yellowed photographs,

distant feelings, the wind in your hands.

A lonely river, from the mountain,

whirling downstream precipitates,

I’m blessed with its glitter,

kidnapped I follow the trail,

as nymph of the woods, with adorned rose buds,

vain, I‘ve mirrored there, hypnotic is the show:

on blue and trembling algae, dragonflies fly,

in the stagnant water, tadpoles swim,

on the rusty and damp rocks, frogs croak,

splash of water on the stones bounce,

scent of resin pours in the coniferous woods,

I, "faun", in a bucolic landscape, meditating,

in the shade of an ancient tree, play the flute,

among the branches of the birds the song

is heard,

iridescent droplets shine on the tender grass,

industrious ants, on the gravely sand,

try to fill the holes,

The trout darting, the oblong river rises,

and with the thought, the past age of my life:

how many laughs on the the river bed,

my brother, "Glauco" fisherman,

failed prophet, soaked wet,

with the fishing rod and the sack half empty,

mortified he justifies saying:

"The fish on the hook didn’t bite".

At dusk the shadows

are reflected on the millenary river,

that never ends to slide,

on the crystalline water I’d like to lie down.
